| Working in conjunction with other committees, the Membership Committee serves to communicate and connect with new members and to preserve and promote membership. The membership committee provides information and general assistance to new members, and works with other committees to target events that preserve and promote membership. | The Programs Committee prepares and organizes events throughout the year to provide opportunities for professional development, fellowship, and to allow members to receive the minimum number of learning units as required by the AIA. Events include the general membership meeting, lunch & learns, building tours, speaking events, and other discussions, presentations, or roundtable events. | The Government Affairs committee communicates the activities of the AIA Michigan Government Affairs Committee to the AIA Huron Valley and facilitates local involvement with legislative initiatives on the State level. | The Nominations Committee ensures the future strength of chapter leadership by defining core criteria that align with the values of our chapter and our industry. This criteria is then applied to prospective candidates for the positions of officers and directors whose terms are about to expire. Members meet no later than August to prepare a slate of candidates to be presented at the September Executive Committee meeting. The slate will be voted on at the annual General Membership Meeting in October. Past presidents of the AIA Huron Valley are encouraged to become involved with this committee. | The Committee on the Environment (COTE) works to sustain and improve the environment by advancing and disseminating environmental knowledge and values, and advocating the best design practices to integrate built and natural systems to the profession, industry and public. | The Public Awareness Committee’s goal is to increase, through the media, the public’s awareness of architecture and the skills that architects bring to the building design and construction industry. Activities include developing working relationships with local media representatives, identifying potential subjects for publication, and maintaining a list of members who have expertise and would be willing to be interviewed by the media. | The goal of the Honor Awards Committee is to increase the public’s awareness of architecture and the skills that architects bring to the building design and construction industry by highlighting projects completed by members of the AIA Huron Valley Chapter. Volunteer opportunities are available for planning and organizing the gala event, as well as organizing the awards and recognition portion of this annual event. The Guide to Ann Arbor Architecture is a highly successful brochure portraying thirty-five local merit-worthy buildings. It is a resource for both resident and tourist alike, designed to take readers on a walking or driving tour of the many architecturally and historically significant sites throughout the Ann Arbor area. As a supplement to the Guide, the committee continues to develop each local landmark into a podcast. Each podcast is filmed as committee volunteers step forward and identify that they have knowledge about a specific building in the Guide that has not yet been turned into a podcast. The podcasts are narrated by local architects and discuss in much greater detail the history and “story” of the project. To further educate residents and visitors about the many locally and internationally recognized architects who have contributed to the region’s architecture, and how Huron Valley’s cultural history has helped to shape the city’s built environment, the Guide to Architecture Committee conducts architectural walking tours of Ann Arbor. If you are interested in volunteering as a walking tour guide, or would like to be in a podcast, openings are still available and committee volunteers are still needed. | This committee is charged with producing a proposed budget showing detailed anticipated income and expenditures of this chapter for the immediately succeeding year. The committee presents the proposed budget for review and approval at the September Executive Committee meeting, and is responsible for distributing copies of the approved budget to all members of the chapter.
